1. Comprehensive eye health examination
We begin with a detailed eye health exam to determine if there are any physical problems in the visual system. Eye health, glasses and contact lens treatment options are addressed. If visual skills or reading issues are identified, additional specialized testing will be scheduled.
2. Specialized vision skills testing
Two 1-hour sessions test the quality of the 20 visual skills needed for successful reading and learning. Results are compiled by the optometrist and reviewed with the patient and/or caregiver. If problems are identified, a vision therapy program will be recommended.
3. Vision therapy program
This individualized treatment plan involves weekly in-office sessions that provide the foundation for change in the patient’s visual system. In between therapy sessions, home support activities are prescribed to solidify the treatment program. Length of treatment depends on the level of difficulty a patient is experiencing and the number of visual skills involved.
